Although we're still in the middle of the winter months, I have started to concentrate on getting the new patch ready - it's a lot of hard work, but it has definitely started to take shape.
My lovely cousins came to stay last weekend, and I roped them into helping us put in fence stakes; I also roped in an awesome neighbour and between everyone we managed to bang in over 50 fence stakes - an incredible achievement in my book as it took me nearly 10 minutes to get one of the blooming things in!! We used a fence stake rammer (one of these) to bang them in, you can go high-tech if you have a local agricultural contractor, but I'm trying to save where I can, so brute force it is....
I've begun making the beds too. I've started with two 1.2m x 8m beds, laid overlapping cardboard and then spread around 15cm deep of compost over the top. These two beds are likely to be flowers so you are greeted by a welcoming sight when you come into the garden!
I've started sowing seeds, which is very exciting! So far, I've got going -
Chillies
Peppers
Aubergines
Peas
Sweet Peas
Broad Beans
Onions
Spring Onions
Kohl Rabi
Beetroot
Cauliflower
Artichoke
Leeks
Cosmos
Carnations
Euphorbia
First batch of tomatoes
I'm doing things in stages so I can get a succession pattern going in the hope I won't have too many gluts, plus I'll stretch out the season as much as possible.
Anyway, that's it for now - more updates very soon!!
