The Big Plan!

With every new year it's traditional to make a whole list of over confident plans, isn't it? We like to think that at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve that the slate is wiped clean and we're ready to rock on a whole new chapter - which is definitely true in some ways but complete hogwash in others ;-) When it comes to gardening, with each new season there's new challenges and new excitement and January marks the month of plans and preparation.

2021 was a huge year for us when it came to continuing to design our garden and building the foundations of the dream. We achieved loads seeing as we also welcomed a new member of the family in July, so I'm pretty chuffed with where we start off 2022.

Here's a picture of our garden today looking towards the veg patch. There's the large sleeper beds on the left hand side, the greenhouse and then the new raised beds, shelter (big dreams of enjoying evening drinks post the kid's bedtime here!) and then the wild flower patch with the fruit trees on the far right.

There's plenty that we need to finish off and start tackling on the veg patch side of the garden, here's just a small snap shot of what needs doing next -

  • Put up fencing around veg patch to deter the rabbits (and toddlers)

  • Put up bean pole supports in the 'wild meadow' patch ready for the sweet peas

  • Mulch remaining beds with manure

  • Turn full compost bay (dreading that job!)

  • Put up lights around the shelter and greenhouse

  • Electrics to the greenhouse so the propagator can spring to life

  • Start sowing chillies, peas and aubergines (wooohoooo)

  • Tie in sweet pea supports behind the cut flower bed as these collapsed last year!

  • Design rest of the cut flower bed and order extra dahlias

  • Order raspberry canes to replace the ones that 'someone aged 2' busted last year

February will be when things really start kicking up a notch but the excitement of the new year is 100% building and I'm so looking forward to seeing how the garden develops this year.

Also looking forward to seeing what the gardening community I love to follow on instagram get up to too! My account on there is @WyeGrow if you don't already follow me :)
